Captain Mason Blakey, Luke Bunker and Patrick Naish have been named in this year’s Vic Metro U18 squad for this year’s National Championships.
Blakey has averaged 22.5 disposals per game this season and has led from the front captaining the side.
Bunker in his three games has averaged over 25 possessions and 6 marks, while Naish has averaged 19 disposals and 4 marks a game.
Talent Manager Rhy Gieschen is thrilled for the boys. “We are really pleased that Mason, Luke and Patrick have made the final Vic Metro u18 squad. All three are outstanding footballers in our program and have come through all the way through our programs over the years and continued to develop.”
Gieschen looks forward to seeing both Blakey and Bunker show their leadership for the squad and putting their names up in front of the AFL recruiters. “Mason and Luke in their final year in the u18 program provide not only quality football on-field but outstanding leadership on and off the field”.
While Naish will likely not be playing Gieschen still sees this as a fantastic opportunity for him. “We know how talented he is and what a great opportunity it is to continue to develop his talent in the Metro program.”
Vic Metro starts its campaign against Vic Country on June 13th at Simmonds Stadium, before a trip to AAMI Stadium on June 19th to take on South Australia. That is followed by a game at Etihad Stadium against Allies. Their final game will be at Simmonds Stadium against Western Australia.
