I followed Tereapii Tapaki around before her discus throw - by Matt
Tereapii Tapaki from, the Cook Islands is the countries lead thrower in all three events so that includes Javelin, Discus and Shot-put. My package for the day was to follow Tereappi around and film her Discus which is her strongest out of the three and is predicted to take the gold as early this year she got 12th in the World at Berlin but also in another competition she set a personal best of 57.61m.
Doing some more research into Tereapii I found out that her best world ranking was 9th and that was in Helsinki in the World Championships.
Unfortunately Tereapii didn’t win the gold medal but won bronze in the competition so that is an achievement in its self and it must be difficult for her to perform at home in front of a home crowd. In the interview she told me she can do better much better as she proved in the 2007 South Pacific Games where she won gold. Tereapii came fourth in the Javelin and competes in shot put on Saturday so that should be exciting as I have found it difficult and challenging to follow her but I enjoyed it and I might think about continuing following Tereapii through her shot put training so look out on the site.
